Don't Just Mix It! This is the Ideal Mixing Ratio

Want to make a foundation, sloof, column, or floor slab? Don't just be reckless and mix the casting materials carelessly! The right concrete mixture is the main key to a strong and durable building.

Now, to avoid measuring incorrectly, let's understand the ideal concrete mixture ratio!

1. General Composition of Concrete Mixture
Standard concrete mixture consists of:

Cement

Sand (fine aggregate)

Gravel/split stone (coarse aggregate)

Water

The ratio often used for residential scale is:

1:2:3
(1 part cement: 2 parts sand: 3 parts gravel)

Easy example:

1 bucket of cement

2 buckets of sand

3 buckets of gravel

Sufficient water (usually around 0.5 parts of the amount of cement)

2. Don't Measure Water Carelessly!

Too much water makes the mixture runny → the structure becomes weak and easy to crack.

Too little water → difficult to stir and the final result is not optimal.

Tips: ideally water is around 45–55% of the weight of cement. So if you use 50 kg of cement, just use 22–27 liters of water.

3. The ratio can vary according to needs
Type of work

Ideal composition

Foundation/main structure

1:2:3

Non-structural floor

1:3:5

Smooth plaster/wall

1:2 (cement: fine sand)

Don't compare it! Heavy structures such as pillars or sloofs require a denser mixture than surface work such as floors or plastering.

4. Use quality materials
No matter how good the measurements are, if the materials are bad, the results will still be bad. ✅ Use fresh cement
✅ Clean sand from mud
✅ Hard gravel/split stone and not mixed with soil

Conclusion
🔹 A ratio of 1:2:3 is the best standard for house structures
🔹 Don't use too much water
🔹 Use clean and quality materials
