Here Are Tips on How to Store Cement So It Doesn't Harden

Cement is one of the most vital materials in the construction world. But unfortunately, if stored incorrectly, cement can harden quickly before it is even used. The result? Wasteful and makes the project inefficient!

Let's see the tips for storing cement properly so that the quality is maintained!

1. Store in a Dry & Closed Place
Air humidity is the main enemy of cement. Do not store cement in an open place or directly in contact with the ground. Store it in a closed and well-ventilated room, away from water and moisture.

2. Use a Wooden Pallet or Base
Do not stack cement sacks directly on the floor. Use a wooden base, pallet, or thick plastic to avoid direct contact with the cold and damp ground or floor.

3. Stack a Maximum of 10 Sacks
If you buy cement in large quantities, do not stack it too high. Ideally, only 8-10 sacks. Stacking too high can damage the sacks underneath and clump due to pressure and humidity.

4. Apply the FIFO (First In First Out) System
Use cement that was purchased first before the new one. This prevents the cement from being stored for too long and hardening before use.

5. Pay attention to the expiration date
Cement has an ideal shelf life, usually around 3 months from the date of production if stored properly. After that, the quality can decrease drastically.

Conclusion
Storing cement properly is not only about maintaining stock, but also maintaining the quality of the building! Clumpy and hard cement can make the work results fragile and not optimal.
