Things to Check Before Casting Floor Slabs

The process of casting the floor slab is one of the important stages in the construction of a house or multi-storey building. Small errors at this stage can have a major impact on the strength and durability of the structure as a whole. Therefore, there are several things that must be checked thoroughly before the casting process is carried out.

1. Formwork and Scaffolding Readiness
The formwork (cast mold) must be installed firmly, tightly, and according to the planning dimensions. The supporting scaffolding also needs to be checked for stability to withstand the heavy load of wet concrete. Make sure there are no gaps or leaks that could cause the concrete to spill during the casting process.

2. Installing Reinforcement According to the Working Drawing
Recheck whether the reinforcement is in accordance with the structural plan drawing. Use quality wire mesh or iron reinforcement and position it correctly, including the use of spacers so that the reinforcement does not stick directly to the formwork.

3. Condition and Quality of Materials
Make sure materials such as cement, sand, gravel, and water are in good condition and the measurements are according to standards. If using bondek, make sure the bondek plate is installed evenly and is not wavy so that the casting results are even.

4. Cleanliness of Casting Area
Clean the roof area from dirt, oil, pieces of wood, or other materials that can interfere with the concrete bond. The surface of the bondek or formwork must be clean so that the concrete adheres perfectly.

5. Casting Equipment Ready to Use
Make sure all tools such as a mixer (concrete mixer), bucket, water hose, vibrator, and others are ready on site. The smoother the casting process, the smaller the risk of the concrete drying unevenly.

6. Weather and Implementation Time
Ideally, casting is done in the morning and in sunny weather. Avoid casting when it rains because it can affect the quality of the mixture and increase the risk of early cracking.
