info@intisumberbajasakti.comPractical columns are important elements in building structures, especially for one- or two-story houses. Their function is to strengthen walls and prevent structural cracks due to vertical loads or light earthquakes. In order for practical columns to work optimally, the installation process must be precise—especially so that they do not tilt, which can disrupt the structure and aesthetics of the building.
Here are some practical tips to keep columns perpendicular and up to standard:
1. Use a Waterpass or Vertical Measuring Tool
Don't rely solely on sight. Use a waterpass, water hose, or laser measuring tool to ensure that the column position is truly perpendicular to the floor surface.
2. Ensure the Base Surface is Flat and Strong
The floor surface or foundation where the column stands must be completely flat and solid. A sloping or wavy surface can cause the column to tilt or become unstable.
3. Make a Precise and Rigid Mold (Formwork)
Use formwork from multiplex or flat boards, and make sure it is firmly installed so that it does not shift during casting. The use of diagonal supports is also important to keep the formwork stable.
4. Install Reinforcement According to the Working Drawing
Make sure the size, quantity, and position of the reinforcement are according to the structural calculations. Tie it with strong bending wire so that it does not shift during casting. Use safety elbows (anchors) if necessary.
5. Use a Consistent Concrete Mix
The concrete mix must be homogeneous and not too runny. Concrete that is too runny can cause the formwork to shift and cause the column to tilt. Also make sure the compaction process is carried out with a tool (vibrator) so that there are no air cavities in the column.
6. Recheck After Casting
Before the concrete hardens, recheck the position of the column using a waterpass. Make corrections immediately if there is a slope. After that, let the column sit for at least 24 hours so that it really hardens before removing the formwork.
Strong Column = Safer Building
Mistakes in installing practical columns can have long-term impacts, ranging from cracked walls to structural damage. Therefore, do not underestimate the installation process—make sure it is done by experienced workers and uses quality materials.
