Tips for Making Walls Anti-Mold and Damp

Walls affected by mold and damp not only disrupt the appearance of the interior of the house, but can also be a source of health problems, especially for residents who have allergies or respiratory problems. This problem often occurs in humid tropical areas or in rooms with poor air circulation. Therefore, building walls that are resistant to moisture is an important step in creating a healthy and comfortable home.

1. Use Quality Materials from the Start
The first step in preventing moldy walls is to ensure the quality of the materials when building. Starting from the selection of cement, sand, to the use of instant mortar that has been formulated for resistance to moisture. Quality materials will help the walls be denser and not easily absorb water.

2. Apply the Right Plastering and Cementing Techniques
The plastering and cementing process should also not be careless. If the cement layer is too thin or uneven, water can easily enter and accumulate on the surface. Make sure each stage is carried out with precision and given sufficient drying time before proceeding to the finishing stage.

3. Let the Walls Dry Perfectly Before Painting
A common mistake in construction is painting walls that are still damp. This accelerates the growth of mold because the paint layer seals the moisture in the wall. Ideally, wait up to 28 days after plastering so that the wall is completely dry and ready to be painted.

4. Choose Paint with Anti-Fungal and Anti-Moisture Features
Use special wall paint that has anti-fungal content, especially for areas prone to moisture such as the kitchen, bathroom, and outside of the house. Also use a base coat (primer) so that the adhesion of the main paint is more optimal and the final result is more durable.

5. Pay Attention to Ventilation and Lighting
Poor ventilation traps humid air indoors. A combination of cross ventilation and sufficient natural lighting can help reduce the risk of mold. For closed rooms, install an exhaust fan so that air circulation remains smooth.

6. Use Waterproofing in Certain Areas
For outdoor areas or walls that are often exposed to rain, it is better to coat them with waterproofing. This product functions as an additional protector that prevents water from entering through the pores of the wall. The use of waterproofing is highly recommended on concrete roofs, balconies, and exterior walls of the house.
