What is the Difference Between Cement and Plastering? Don't Call Them Wrong!

In the process of finishing building walls, two terms that often appear are plastering and aci. Although often considered the same, both have different functions and materials. If you want neat and durable wall results, it is very important to know the difference!

1. Plastering (Plaster)
Plastering is the first coating process after a brick wall is finished being built. The mixture usually consists of cement, sand, and water.

Main functions:

  • Even out the surface of the wall
  • Closing the pores between bricks
  • Becoming the base for a layer of plaster or paint
  • Plastering is usually done with a thickness of 1-2 cm depending on the condition of the wall.

2. Aci
Aci is a thin layer on top of the plaster that uses only cement (or sometimes a mixture with a little water). You can also use instant plaster which is more practical.

Main functions:

  • Make the surface of the wall smooth
  • Ready to be painted or installed with ceramics
  • Closing hairline cracks and fine pores from the plaster
  • The thickness of the plaster is much thinner, only around 2-3 mm.

Conclusion
Plastering and cementing are two different stages in wall finishing. Do not plaster brick walls directly without plaster, because it can make the paint results uneven and crack quickly.
