info@intisumberbajasakti.comHave you ever changed your oil a few days ago, only to find it's already pitch black? Many people immediately panic, thinking the engine is damaged. However, oil that quickly turns black isn't necessarily a sign of damage — it could actually be a sign that the oil is working properly! Let's discuss the causes and how to fix it.
1. Oil Is Cleaning Engine Dirt
One of the main functions of oil is to clean carbon residue and dirt from combustion in the engine compartment. When new oil enters the engine, it immediately "binds" the remaining deposits, causing the oil to turn black.
Solution: This is normal, especially if you haven't changed your oil often. Just make sure you've followed the manufacturer's recommendations for regular oil changes.
2. Oil Quality Doesn't Meet Engine Specifications
If your oil quickly turns black, accompanied by a heavy engine feel or fuel consumption, it could be that the oil doesn't meet engine specifications. Oil that is too thin or doesn't have good cleaning additives can oxidize quickly.
Solution: Use oil recommended by the engine manufacturer. For heavy machinery such as construction equipment, choose high-quality industrial oil with high temperature and pressure resistance.
3. Incomplete Combustion
Incomplete combustion (for example, due to a dirty air filter or a problematic injection system) produces more carbon. This carbon is what causes the oil to darken quickly.
Solution: Check the air filter and fuel system regularly to ensure optimal combustion and prevent the oil from becoming dirty quickly.
4. Overheating
Excessively high engine temperatures accelerate oil oxidation, causing it to darken and thicken more quickly.
Solution: Check the cooling system and ensure the radiator and engine fan are functioning properly. Use oil with high temperature resistance if the engine is frequently used heavily.
5. Old Engine
Engines that have been used for a long time tend to have larger combustion gaps, making the oil mix more easily with combustion gas residue. As a result, the oil color changes more quickly.
Solution: Use oil with a higher viscosity for older engines to maintain optimal lubrication.
Conclusion
Oil that darkens quickly doesn't always mean damage — it could actually be a sign that the oil is working well to protect your engine. However, if symptoms such as rough noise, decreased performance, or excessive smoke are present, it's best to have it checked by a repair shop immediately.
